Childish Gambino offers fans disappointed by Australian gig free tickets to show 100 miles away
Rapper Childish Gambino allegedly offered to make it up to fans left disappointed by his recent show in Newcastle, Australia by giving them free tickets to a festival he was scheduled to play in Sydney: over two hours away.
Earlier this week, the hip-hop star and Community actor (real name Donald Glover) performed as part of an "ensemble DJ set" at the Cambridge Hotel in Newcastle, New South Wales. However, punters had been expecting a full headline show.
Reports claimed that "audience members chanted obscenities and heckled" as Glover "largely [took] a back seat to the other featured artists".
Fans later took to social media to express their disappointment, with one writing that Glover and co "payed a bunch of stuff off a mixtape that 90 per cent of people didn't know", with another stating that the star performed "only one song, twice".
Following the incident however, Gambino sent an email to all punters that bought tickets to the Newcastle show inviting them to the Sydney's Listen Out Festival on Saturday (October 3) to see him "performing with his full band set up", despite the city being 100 miles away.
The email apologised for "a miscommunication about Thursday night's show" while a press statement to Entertainment Weekly read: "Regardless of whose error in communication that was, Gambino’s team takes it very seriously when fans are disappointed".
