A Dublin band has been fined by the city's council for exceeding noise limits.
Five-piece group Keywest performed on Grafton Street in Dublin city centre during August, allegedly breaking controversial noise limits introduced last year.
The new law, which came into effect from April 2014, restricts noise levels higher than 80 decibels. Keywest are accused of breaking the law with their recent set and have been slapped with a fine.
A spokesperson for Dublin City Council told The Irish Independent: "The fine is €75 (£55) and is only issued when an earlier warning notice has not been complied with."
The band claim to have been fined €75 (£55) per person and reject allegations that they were performing without a permit. They have already paid the council fine.
"The city doesn't want busking removed," frontman Andy Kavanagh said. "I am fine with rules that work and we are happy to talk to them about rules that work."
"The decibel level is unachievable. If I am singing without a microphone, without an amp, just acoustically on the street, I would be hitting 90 to 95 decibels from 15 feet away."
Keywest are currently Number Two in the Irish album charts with their second album 'Joyland'.
