Justin Bieber has claimed One Direction chose to release their new album on the same day as his new album as part of a 'promo strategy.'
Justin Bieber had already announced that his as yet untitled fourth album would be released on November 13 when One Direction announced their fifth album, 'Made In The AM' would come out on the same day.
Last week (Sep 29), Bieber posted a video on Snapchat which saw him comment to the camera: "The face you make when you come out with an album the same day as Justin Bieber."
As reported by Billboard, Bieber then appeared on a radio interview for New Zealand's Smash! The Edge, where he was asked about the joint release date and why he thought One Direction had opted for the same day.
"They're not really going on the road much, but we're talking about them right now, so it gives them some promo, right?" he said. "So, that’s probably why they did it... I think it was strategy on their part because my release date was first."
"But whatever. It's whatever," he continued. "It's going to be fun. I'm excited to see what happens."
Justin Bieber’s fourth album will be released on November 13 via RBMG and Island Records. It’s is reportedly titled 'Purpose' and follows 2012’s 'Believe'.
OneDirection release their fifth album 'Made In The AM' on November 13 via Columbia Records and Syco Music. It follows fourth album, 2014’s 'FOUR'. It will be their first studio release as a four piece, following the departure of Zayn Malik in March.
